Markus L. E. Ewert, President & CEO
Markus L.E. Ewert earned a Ph.D. in molecular biology in Heidelberg (1991) and added a business degree (MBA) from the University of Chicago (1993). In 1993 he joined The Boston Consulting Group in Munich to consult pharmaceutical and chemistry companies. In 1995 he accepted a position as Head of International Product Management at Schwarz Pharma AG (Germany) and moved later within that company to become Director of Corporate Development. In November 1998 Dr. Ewert became President & CEO of Axxima Pharmaceuticals AG, Martinsried, Germany, and transferred in February 2001 to join Xerion Pharmaceuticals.
Peter Biewald, Chief Financial Officer
Peter Biewald received his degree in economics from the University of Munich (1989) and subsequently joined Deutsche Bank. In 1992 he moved to Siemens AG to work in the Central Finance Department. From 1994 to 1997 Mr. Biewald was Treasurer at Computer 2000. Before joining Xerion in October 2001 Mr. Biewald held a position as Director of Treasury and Investor Relations at VIAG Interkom, responsible for Risk Management, M&A activities and Venture Capital.
Anil Singhal , Ph.D., Chief Drug Development Officer
Anil Singhal earned his Ph.D. from the Waksman Institute of Rutgers University, New Brunswick and an Executive MBA from the University of Washington in Seattle. He headed cancer diagnostics and therapeutics programs at The Biomembrane Institute of Seattle, an affiliate of Otsuka Pharmaceuticals and then became its Chief Operating Officer in 1992. He was concurrently the associate professor of pathobiology at the University of Washington. Anil joined Pacific Pharmaceuticals as the Vice President for R&D in 1996 and was responsible for developing three cancer programs through clinical development, and the PMA approval of a diagnostic device. Prior to joining Xerion in May 2003, he was the Vice President of Pharmaceutical Product Development at Light Sciences Corp. and lead its oncology programs. Anil has sixty publications in peer reviewed journals.
